BikeMN at the E-bike Challenge!

BikeMN’s booth at the E-Bike Challenge

With a growing demand for e-bikes in Minnesota, the electric bike expo organizer of several events across Europe returned to Minneapolis for the E-bike Challenge. Held at the Convention Center in Minneapolis on April 2nd – 3rd, it was a great opportunity for consumers, businesses, and non-profit/advocacy organizations (like BikeMN!) to talk about electric bicycles and cargo bikes.

If you don’t know, an e-bike is a bicycle that has a battery and electric motor allowing a cyclist to ride farther and with greater ease. The bicycle doesn’t do all the work, it assists! The bicyclist must pedal for the motor to engage, enabling the user to ride a little easier and further. There were a variety of vendors representing dozens of electric bicycle brands at the Challenge. Their presence allowed attendees to ask questions and test ride many, many styles and types of e-bikes and e-trikes while at the e-Bike Challenge. E-bikes are developing so quickly that there are specific models best suited for commuting, recreation riding, hauling cargo, families, and more! Great for Minnesota, you will also find e-fat-tire bikes for winter or off-road riding, along with many e-bike accessories.

BikeMN was at the e-Bike Expo this past weekend, alongside a number of other organizations working to make bicycling, walking, and rolling safer for everyone across Minnesota, talking about changes to e-bike laws that happened last summer. Dorian Grilley, BikeMN’s Executive Director, gave two talks about these e-bike rule updates and BikeMN’s other advocacy goals related to safety, network connectivity across Minnesota, and challenges.
