We Are All Minnesota: A cycling kit benefitting the International Institute of Minnesota

By Erik Noonan | March 16, 2026

Minnesota has always been a place of arrival.

People have come here from every corner of the world — seeking safety, opportunity, dignity, and a place to build a life. They have worked here, raised families here, worshipped and contributed and become part of the fabric of this state. That is not a new story. It is, in many ways, the Minnesota story.

Right now, that story is under threat.

The federal government’s escalating campaign of fear and enforcement has shaken communities across our state. Families who have built lives here are living in terror. And the organizations that stand between those families and the worst outcomes are working harder than ever.

That’s why BikeMN is launching the We Are All Minnesota cycling kit — and why 100% of proceeds will go directly to the International Institute of Minnesota. Our longtime partner in bike education for recently arrived neighbors.

The International Institute of Minnesota

Founded in 1919, the International Institute of Minnesota has spent more than a century turning arrival into belonging. Through language instruction, job placement, housing support, and deeply human connection, they walk alongside newly arrived Minnesotans as they build their lives.

BikeMN’s partnership with the International Institute runs deep. Together, we’ve run Learn to Ride programs specifically designed for adult newcomers — teaching people to safely navigate their new communities by bicycle, and providing them with a quality bike to do it. Reliable transportation is one of the most important determinants of success for new neighbors.

Right now, the International Institute is on the front lines — providing critical support and legal resources to those most at risk. The We Are All Minnesota jersey is our answer. Our refusal to look away.

The Design: A Vocabulary of Unity

The jersey was created by Rodrigo Bautista, a Mexican immigrant and Minneapolis resident whose artistry is matched only by his heart.

The design centers the phrase seen at protests around the world: We Are All Minnesota — a rallying cry of solidarity, a recognition that this state’s identity is inseparable from the people who have come here seeking safety and dignity and opportunity.

The visual language Rodrigo built is extraordinary. A grid structure holds together animals and motifs drawn from the cultural traditions of peoples who now comprise Minnesota — a deliberate, beautiful composition of many worlds within one world. Quetzalcóatl appears as a bridge across cultures and time. The Makwa — the bear, sacred to Ojibwe tradition — stands as guardian, embodying wisdom and a bond with the natural world. Patterns and colors drawn from traditions near and far: none of these compete. Together, they compose.

The Star of the North — L’Étoile du Nord, Minnesota’s motto — threads through the design as a reminder that this state’s guiding light has always been its people.

In Rodrigo’s own words:

“This jersey was born from three ideas: pluralidad, healing, and courage. Pluralidad — the Spanish word captures something the English language doesn’t quite. It’s the recognition that many worlds exist within our world, and that this is worth celebrating because it leads to a richer life.

I’ll be honest: this design was hard to make. Creating anything while watching painful things unfold, and carrying my own immigrant experience with racism, made every decision feel heavy. But I kept returning to these three ideas, and eventually they held.

Wear it on your bike. Wear it with pride. That’s what I’ll be doing.”
