Slow Roll South Minneapolis: Legacy and History of Black Churches Ride
Join us for a powerful evening on two wheels as we roll through the heart of South Minneapolis honoring legacy African American churches — sacred spaces that have long been the bedrock of our communities, fueling movements for social justice, Black liberation, and collective economics. African American churches are the spiritual, social, and economic anchors that have held our communities through generations of change, challenge, and celebration.
This Slow Roll is more than a ride. It’s a rolling tribute to the sacred spaces where sermons stirred resistance, choirs echoed freedom songs, and pastors preached justice. These churches are more than buildings — they are living monuments to faith-in-action and Black resilience.
We’ll visit some of South Minneapolis’s most storied Black churches — past and present — where we’ll pause for reflection, storytelling, and a few surprises:
Hear oral histories, spoken word, and community reflections at each stop — led by elders, artists, and movement leaders. Learn how these congregations fueled housing cooperatives, credit unions, civil rights campaigns, and youth empowerment. Ride through a timeline of Black South Minneapolis, told through the churches that shaped it
